Between Knowledgeable Man and Knowledgeable Dog
Verse About Trained Dog
Allah Ta'ala said,
"They ask you,
"What is lawful for them?"
Say: "It is lawful for you that the good ones and (the prey caught)
by the wild animals which you have taught by training them to hunt; you teach him according to what God has
taught you. So eat what it catches
for you, and mention the name of Allah over the beast (when releasing it). And fear Allah, verily Allah is swift in
reckoning." (Surat al-Maidah: 4)
Hadith About Trained Dog
From 'Adi bin Hatim radhiyallahu 'anhu, he said, Rasulullah
sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,
"If you want to
release a dog (a trained hunter), then say 'bismillah'. If he catches something for you, then you
find the prey alive, then slaughter it.
If you find the game was killed by the game dog and he does not eat it,
then eat the game. If you find your dog
with another dog and he has killed the game, then do not eat it because you do
not know who killed the game.
If you let go of your
arrow, then say Bismillah. If it is missing
from you for a day and you cannot find it except your arrow, then eat the game
if you wish. If you find him drowning in
water, then don't eat him."
(Narrated by Bukhari, no. 5484 and Muslim, no. 1929).
In the verse, it is required that the game that is lawful to
be eaten is from animals that have been trained beforehand. If they are not trained, it means that they
have not made the game halal. Likewise,
the hadith shows that it is permissible to hunt with hunting dogs that have
been trained previously, then when released by the owner read
"Bismillah".
Actually, the above
verse and hadith are not only talking about the issue of hunting with dogs that
are allowed but there are benefits about knowing that we can take. What's that?
Ibnul Qayyim rahimahullah
said, "If it weren't for the privilege of science, learning religion and
the glory of science, of course, the prey of trained and untrained dogs would be
punished the same way." (Miftah Dar
As-Sa'adah, 1:233)
Allah has made the prey of untrained dogs a carcass that is forbidden to eat. This is different from the prey of dogs that have been trained. This is what shows the superiority of the knowledgeable over the uneducated.
